The best things about my new house are proper heating, no more emotional homelessness-induced rollercoaster rides, nice housemates (spanish girl I havent met yet + nice dude), unlimited internet, within 100 metres of my work, a gym and Pret, close to Old St bars so minimal Oyster Card bashing and night-bussing, and the VIEW!

room with a view
After hours of reading endless articles about the Iranian elections in June, and hours of lugging my baggage on buses, trains, up stairs and down escalators, I finally arrived in my new London room this evening. Sigh.

pop art outing
Today Gill and I checked out the Pop Life exhibition at Tate Modern. Luckily part of the exhibition was rated 18+ so it wasnt over-run with excited children on half term holidays, but it was stupidly busy nonetheless.

The exhibition was interesting (I read every wall sign), colourful (like a full-colour glossy magazine) and generally enjoyable. Gill and I regularly giggled the un-art-educated cliche 'this is ART?', most especially while perusing the 'art' in the 18+ room which included a close up poster sized picture of a shaven porn-star anus.
The highlight for Gill was a Takashi Murakami video featuring a Harajuku Kirsten Dunst dancing in Tokyo singing 'Im Turning Japanese'. The highlight for me was ghostly black-lit paintings of Andy Warhol's precious gems.

The cherry on the top of the day was a browse of the Tate shop where I indulged my museum-shop fetish and bought a space origami kit which I am currently too tired to even attempt. One day I will learn how to make an origami astronaut and lunar module!

What a lovely outing!

ubitiquitous blog wishlist
So I have been desperately missing my sewing machine since I left home in August. Particularly in fashion-obsessed London where I watch Project Runway on Sky while eating breakfast. I would love to be able to buy some vintage to alter it, or even make some simple dresses, t-shirts or skirts.
In the spirit of the blog wish-list here are some of the things I would love to try and attempt at the moment if my sewing machine wasn't stored in a laundry cupboard on the other side of the earth.

oh my god just please don't ever let me go
Pretty nice stuff in Europe. And Melbourne (1st photo is a strange painted tin fence in Nth Melbourne).
london floats my boat
London is huge and I've barely scratched the surface but so far here are some of the things which convinced me not to fly back to Germany straight away!
- Ten charity shops on every high street.
- Old St grungy boozing.
- Fast internet.
- Art...lots of art. Free art. Interesting art.
- More music than I can even start to comprehend.
- Inspiration.
- Friends. New friends, old friends and friends I haven't met yet.
- Origami wardrobe kits and 3D drawing pads in the National Portrait Gallery shop.
- Free Penguin Classics with every newspaper.
- Pret red-onion pickle and mature chedder sandwiches.
