pop art outing

Today Gill and I checked out the Pop Life exhibition at Tate Modern. Luckily part of the exhibition was rated 18+ so it wasnt over-run with excited children on half term holidays, but it was stupidly busy nonetheless.

The exhibition was interesting (I read every wall sign), colourful (like a full-colour glossy magazine) and generally enjoyable. Gill and I regularly giggled the un-art-educated cliche 'this is ART?', most especially while perusing the 'art' in the 18+ room which included a close up poster sized picture of a shaven porn-star anus.

The highlight for Gill was a Takashi Murakami video featuring a Harajuku Kirsten Dunst dancing in Tokyo singing 'Im Turning Japanese'. The highlight for me was ghostly black-lit paintings of Andy Warhol's precious gems.

The cherry on the top of the day was a browse of the Tate shop where I indulged my museum-shop fetish and bought a space origami kit which I am currently too tired to even attempt. One day I will learn how to make an origami astronaut and lunar module!

What a lovely outing!
